Fernandes Slams 'Naive' Liverpool

Queens Park Rangers chairman Tony Fernandes has labelled Liverpool naive in their attempt to sell separate television rights.

The Reds caused quite a stir when rumours surfaced that they were fighting to sell their own television rights, so as not to have to share the pot with other Premier League clubs.

Quite understandable therefore that there will be those like Mr Fernandes that would like to sell the Premier League as an overall brand as opposed to individual entities.

Fernandes told Sky News: 'Divide and rule is a way of weakening all of us and I don't think it was very far-sighted of Liverpool in terms of negotiating that.

'And I think there's ups and downs and no-one can claim to own fans. I think loyalties in Asia are growing very rapidly and they can change - so I think it's a little bit naive.'

R's owner Fernandes believes that Liverpool should be coming together with the Premier League as a collective to construct the best deal possible for all clubs concerned.

He continued: 'I think the way to do it is to negotiate collectively and bring the power of the Premier League as one to TV stations.

'And I think TV stations want that anyway because it's easier administratively to negotiate that.'
