'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Silly Season Underway

Barely 24 hours have elapsed since the appointment of Mark Hughes and already the tabloids are having a field day.

The new QPR boss has brought with him an air of optimism in terms of signings and while the consistently linked Christopher Samba is still on the shopping list, he is alledgly planning a more speculative raid on another former club.

Chelsea duo Alex and Didier Drogba are being linked with a move to Loftus Road. Right, now you've stopped smirking, can one really look beyond this being tabloid speculation, particularly with regards to the Ivorian Drogba.

Sent off for a poorly-timed lunge on Adel Taarabt last time out in W12, the striker has made no secret of his desire to edge away from Stamford Bridge in recent seasons - yours truly will be the most surprised face on show should he rock up in W12.

While Hughes' appointment is breeding that confidence and excitement in the transfer market, chairman Tony Fernandes has stated that there is 'no player he is afraid to be linked with,' while in the same breath pouring scorn on rumours linking the club with Argentinean rogue Carlos Tevez.

Nigel de Jong's name is still being linked with a move from another of Hughes' former clubs, Manchester City. Although even the speculative tabloid reports believe this to be a touch too outside Fernandes' vision.
