Smith: For The Fans

TOMMY Smith would like a second win in as many opportunities against Chelsea - and he'd like to do it for the fans.

The winger was a 62nd minute substitute when Rangers picked up the victory over their neighbours earlier this campaign - A Heidar Helguson penalty sealing a memorable win.

Smith admitted that while it is once again a big game for Rangers, Chelsea will have the fixture better scouted this time around.

He told QPR.co.uk: 'It is a big game for us, particularly as we know how much this one means to the fans.

'We beat them 1-0 in the league earlier in the season so they will be looking for revenge.

'I think Chelsea will be better prepared this time around and will know what the atmosphere is going to be like.

'Maybe that struck them because a lot of their players hadn't played at Loftus Road before and I think it took them by surprise.'

There can be little question that Chelsea under-estimated not only the club but the passion among the supporters for the occasion.

Smith himself has got the bit between his teeth after getting a new lease of life under Mark Hughes.

A tremendous goal to clinch a crucial three points against Wigan Athletic will see the wide-man as a sure fire starter given Rangers' injury woe in attack.
