QPR Release Rowlands

QPR Release Rowlands

MARTIN Rowlands has been released of his contract at Queens Park Rangers today

The former club captain and longest-serving present player made over 200 appearances for the club, overseeing two promotion campaigns.

Signing from Brentford in the summer 2003, Rowlands quickly establised himself as a versatile and accomplished player, helping Rangers from Division Two in his first season.

His goal against Swindon Town set up the momentous day in Sheffield, when his effort forced an own goal and pushed Rangers on to promotion.

With a flock of managers coming and going over the resultant years, Rowlands fell in and out of favour, with two knee ligament injuries scuppering his international progress.

He has had brief loan spells with Millwall and Wycombe Wanderers and can now take his time selecting a Football League club given that free agents can sign at any stage outside the top flight.

The 32-year-old will leave behind some wonderful memories with coach Marc Bircham all that is left of the side that hauled Rangers from Division Two and back into the second tier.
