Harry: 'They blew it!'

I am listening to Harry Redknapp's post-match Press Conference which Sky Sports News is airing right now. Here are a few of the choice and very honest comments from our manager (all of which I agree with, by the way!!)

Harry Redknapp: 'We gave two diabolical goals away. Terrible, sloppy defending. Suddenly you find yourself two goals down. Third goal's offside but that's not an excuse! The fourth goal is another sloppy goal. You can't give goals away like that and win football matches.

'The first two goals really gave us a mountain to climb. It was diabolical defending for both of them.'

When asked whether he realistically thought the team he fielded would be capable of beating MK Dons, Harry's response was emphatic! 'Oh absolutely! Of course! That's why they're here.' He went on to list the internationals (like Green and Granero) and players of (supposed) quality (like Park!) I wasn't sure if his comment that he's been told lots of clubs want to buy Ale Faurlin was sarcastic or not!

'Surely they're capable of beating the team from two divisions down? Its not a bad team! What does it tell me? It tells me that, like I've said all along, I need to improve the squad. That's why I've traipsed all over Europe for the last 3 weeks, trying to improve the squad; because we're short.

'We're getting blood out of a stone at the moment. I know we need to improve and that's what we'll continue to try to do this week. But it's not easy!'

Then he was asked if he would have to move any of those players who featured today on. Harry responded: 'Yes! I gave them a chance today because some of them knock on my door and say they should be playing and other people tell me they're all good players.

'Well, they got their chance today - and they blew it!'
At which point, Redknapp turned his head to one side and took a long sip of his tea.

Harry finished off admitting how upset he was at losing today: 'I will go home with the raving hump tonight! I've not picked the team to lose today, I've picked the team to win - a team that should be able to beat MK Dons because if you go through that team man-for-man, it's a team there with them all at a Premier League club, they've all been signed to play Premier League football.'

I find Redknapp very honest in his assessment - he has not tried to find excuses or hidden his hurt and anger. And I feel that we will see many of those who featured today moved on or sidelined until the summer, not featuring in our final 25. But I also feel that we will not find it that easy to bring in any quality players before Thursday's 11.00 pm deadline and we will be stuck with players who do not give their all representing our beloved Club as we fight for our survival.
