DJ Loan Beneficial?

DJ Campbell is being linked with a move away on loan - but to what extent will that benefit QPR?

The stop-start Queens Park Rangers career of DJ Campbell took another twist on Deadline Day, when he missed the opportunity to join Hull City or Blackburn Rovers.

The QPR forward incensed Steve Bruce when he slipped out for 'lunch' when in fact he elected to go to Ewood Park for talks. These were talks that couldn't be completed before the 11.00pm deadline.

31-year-old Campbell has however been selected among Harry Redknapp's 25-man squad, alongside fellow out-of-favour forward, Jay Bothroyd - the pair signing under Neil Warnock prior to the 2011-12 season.

Is a loan deal beneficial? - For the player, probably; for the club? - not so sure. It could depend entirely on the diagnosis of Loic Remy's injury, which could be anywhere from a week to three months out, depending on what you read.

If indeed Remy is injured, there seems little sense in offloading another forward out of choice, particularly a forward with a point to prove in the guise of Campbell.

While some may question his ability at the highest level, there seems little sense in selecting him with the intention of loaning him out right away, when that place could have been kept free for a potential free agent?

Time will tell if Campbell will leave with the loan window due to open shortly, but quite how QPR will be able to rationalise letting a striker leave with one sidelined and one struggling will be interesting.

You've put forward all the thoughts whizzing round my head about this! Where on earth is the logic in loaning a forward out with the "great white hope" currently unfit for an unspecified length of time! Nuts, Rangers, nut!!

sandydl, An alternative view is this. Why are we still lumbered with a "yesterday's man" who is more "past it" than I am?
