'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Player Rating - 4. Shaun Derry

Appearances: 19
Goals: 0

There's very little that one can say about Shaun Derry that has not already been said. The tireless midfielder has his own accepted limitations but that has not stopped him from breaking into managerial plans time and again.

He was shunned once more by Mark Hughes and used sparingly in accordance with his relative place in the pecking order. He was behind Park Ji Sung, Stephane Mbia and Esteban Granero and it appeared there was little way back for the veteran midfielder.

He showed however that despite his limitations, he is able to give maximum effort and provide a steely and determined edge that lacked so evidently at stages during the season. He helped turn a couple of games purely by his presence and Loftus Road would respond in kind.

It would be a great pity if he was ousted this summer, particularly as he could contribute in the second tier and the resale value and wages saved would be negligible. Featuring alongside Alejandro Faurlín could prove once again to be a useful and formidable Championship duo.

Rating: 7/10
