Player Rating - 17. Ryan Nelsen

Appearances: 24
Goals: 1

Ryan Nelsen was brought in by Mark Hughes as a bit-part defender, an experienced head to help the younger players, and despite all the glitz and glamour that walked through the door at Loftus Road, the acquisition of the New Zealander was Hughes' shrewdest purchase.

He proved to be a consistent performer at the heart of defence, at times holding together a crumbling rearguard single-handedly. His final performance as a professional footballer, in a stalemate against Manchester City, rather reaffirmed his status as an excellent top flight defender.

Sad therefore that he decided to leave at the first available opportunity, particularly with QPR in such a perilous position. While I do not begrudge his move, it was very unfortunate for Rangers that they had to limp on without a defender like Nelsen at their disposal.

The defender certainly had more in his tank to give, but sadly for QPR, he left and took a chunk of Rangers survival hopes with him.
