One to Watch - Nahki Wells

Name: Nahki Wells

Date of Birth: 1/6/1990

Nationality: Bermuda

Former Clubs: Carlisle United, Bradford City

League Appearances (Goals): 95 (43)

International Appearances (Goals): 6 (2)

Stat of the Day: Nahki Wells managed to score in eight consecutive games for Bradford at the beginning of this season - a club record

Player Profile: With the introduction of the transfer window prompting spiralling transfer fees and outlandish 'exclusive stories` from Sky Sports, clubs are intensifying their search for the next unearthed bargain whilst avoiding the focused attention of the trying and irritating Jim White. Huddersfield, with an impressive scouting and recruitment network already in place, appear to have picked up one of the shrewdest January investments with the signing of striker Nahki Wells. Even Ian Holloway said: 'Is Nahki Wells worth £1.3 million? He is if he scores the goals that get you promoted and brings in £150 million`. The 23-year-old, who scored on his debut against Holloway`s Millwall last week, has been the focus of attention for numerous clubs in recent months but the Bermudan-born frontman decided to join Huddersfield in a bid to further a prospering career.

Wells forged a name for himself during three years at Bradford City, coming to the attention of the footballing world during The Bantams remarkable League Cup run last season. His 26 goals last campaign also helped Bradford to promotion from League 1 and he fit seamlessly into the new division`s challenges this year. His transfer to rivals` Huddersfield Town has raised a few eyebrows as well as irked a few of the Bradford faithful, but they certainly couldn`t deny their wish for a youthful and ambitious striker to fulfil a growing career. Wells will undoubtedly flourish at The John Smith`s Stadium and could well be the next success story to emerge from the lower leagues.

Player History:

Nahki Wells began his career in his native Bermuda before moving to England in 2010. He played for non-league Eccleshill United before signing for Carlisle United in January 2011. He made his debut for Carlisle against Bristol Rovers but failed to cement a regular spot in the starting line-up and having made just three appearances for The Cumbrians left the club at the end of the season.

In July 2011 Wells signed a one-year contract with Bradford City after a successful trial during pre-season. He scored his first goal for the club in a 4-2 win against Barnet and after a fruitful first season at Valley Parade, in which he netted 12 times, Bradford exercised an option to extend Well`s contract for a further year.

The 2012/2013 season was Wells breakthrough year as his goals and impressive performances helped Bradford to not only the League Cup final but the League 2 Playoff final, where a goal helped his side to a 3-0 win over Northampton Town at Wembley. Wells` significant performances continued in League 1, drawing interest from a host of Championship and Premier League clubs, and after much transfer talk Wells made a £1.3 million move to rivals Huddersfield Town in January 2014. The deal was initially completed as a one-game loan deal before paperwork was finalised; Wells scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Millwall on his debut.
