Smithies Rules Out QPR Departure

Smithies Rules Out QPR Departure

Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Alex Smithies has ruled out a departure from the club this transfer window despite speculation linking him with a switch to Huddersfield Town.

The 27 year old stopper has been one of our most consistent performers under Ian Holloway this season but following Huddersfield's promotion to the Premier League last summer, there had been growing speculation that he could be set for a return to his hometown and former club this month.

Dismissing that outright this week, Smithies spoke about feeling 'appreciated' at Loftus Road and he was enjoying his time with us and was focused on picking up more wins in the second half of the season.

Speaking to GetWestLondon to address the speculation, Smithies explained.

'I'd like to think so. I'm happy, I'm playing week-in week-out and enjoying my football, and that's my main priority. You want to be at a club where you're appreciated and you're wanted and playing games. Luckily I'm in that position so I'm very happy.'

Whether or not that is enough to quell the speculation in the media and online remains to be seen, but it should reassure some as long as a ridiculous offer doesn't come in for him.
