Instant Reactions - Burton v QPR (13/1/18)

Following today's clash between Burton Albion and Queens Park Rangers, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Burton Albion hosted Queens Park Rangers at the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday January 13, with the visitors taking a three one victory.

Teenager Aramide Oteh opened the scoring in the 32nd minute as he registered his first professional goal, but the hosts were back on level terms two minutes later as Nathan Dyer hit the leveller.

Having hit the post in the first half, Conor Washington finally found the net in the 74th minute and before Massimo Luongo tied the game up with three minutes to play as he made it three.

Teams:

Burton:

Bywater, Brayford, McFadzean (Allen 60), Buxton, Turner, Flanagan, Miller (Sbarra 41), Naylor, Murphy (Sordell 80), Dyer, Akins.

Substitutes:

Warnock, Akpan, Campbell, Barker.

QPR:

Smithies, Onuoha, Lynch, Robinson, Furlong, Luongo, Scowen, Freeman (Manning 89), Bidwell, Washington, Oteh (Smith 74).

Substitutes:

Ingram, Wszolek, Perch, Eze, Sylla.

Speaking to the BBC's cameras a short time after match day referee Steve Martin blew the final whistle, Burton manager Nigel Clough explained.

'We didn't play well enough and QPR deservedly won the game. We hung on in there and came in 1-1 at half-time, which we probably didn't deserve, but we were and we should have then gone on and got something from the game. But if we keep giving the ball away in certain areas of the pitch like we did today, then any team in the Championship is going to punish you. It's difficult to explain why, when we've been so good in the last half a dozen games, we played nowhere near it today. It's not about formations or anything like that - it's just about the players doing better at home than they are at the moment.'

Queens Park Rangers manager Ian Holloway in his comparative interview explained.

'I thought our performance was excellent. We raised a few eyebrows by playing Rem in the team. I felt it was about changing the balance of the team. I thought Conor had taken not playing in the team very well and he looked really sharp. I wanted to throw Burton a different challenge. Burton had to change their shape because we were dominating things. Unfortunately we missed a couple of opportunities and then when we did score they scored far too quickly for my liking. We have a very big club and a very big set-up, and my job is to try and bring us all together. But today I will be going away from here absolutely delighted with everything.'
