The Linfield forward will be in action against Glentoran and after initial interest from the Rangers scouting team, Holloway has agreed to size up his striking target.
Thompson has hit 33 goals in all competitions this season and has been one of the many goalscorers Holloway and his team have been tracking. The 21-year old has been linked with a move to an unnamed English club since before Christmas but Scottish club Gretna have also joined the race, having two bids turned down.
It is thought an offer in the region of £150,000 would be appropriate but at this stage Rangers are not in negotiations and will not begin talks until Holloway has seen the striker in action.
The Rangers boss is keen to add some much needed firepower to the squad after Saturday’s 2-0 reverse at Luton and is also following Bournemouth forward James Hayter.
Hayter is out-of-contract in June and the Cherries are keen to offload the striker for cash rather than risk losing him on a free transfer in the summer. So far Bristol City have had two bids rejected but have admitted talks are ongoing.
here is now only a week left in the transfer window and with no game until the 31st January, Holloway intends on using that time to search for the missing piece in the jigsaw.
Elsewhere, new signing Marcin Kus made an impressive start to his Rangers career despite playing in the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea reserves. Reserve team coach Gary Waddock was very pleased with his performance in what was a young side.
ommy Doherty also played in the game suffering no ill effects from his recent broken leg but will need more match time before he returns to the first team squad.
