Macca Is Back

Rangers stalwart Alan McDonald is returning to join Gary Waddock's temporary coaching team.

McDonald made over 400 appearances for Rangers between 1981 and 1997 including many as club captain.

The former Northern Ireland international has been linked with the managers job at his home country club Glentoran but has rejected the move in favour of a return to Loftus Road.

McDonald will be on duty during tomorrow's match and caretaker manager Gary Waddock is delighted to have him on board. Speaking to the official QPR website he said:

'He's QPR through and through and has got a real passion for the club.

'But he's not just a QPR legend, he's a fully qualified coach who has worked at international level and he's just come back from Israel with the Northern Ireland U21 squad.

'It wasn't a difficult job to convince him, he's got blue and white blood running though his veins.'

McDonald also welcomed the move saying 'I will now not be the next manager of Glentoran'.

McDonald explained: 'Gary asked me if I would be interested in coming along and giving him a hand.

'It is a temporary role but I had many happy days at QPR and I'm delighted to help.'

Macca has recently been away with the Northern Ireland under 21's in a coaching capacity.
