Havant They Done Well

Havant They Done Well

Havant and Waterlooville dumped League One leaders Swansea out the cup in a whirlwind couple of days of FA Cup replay action.

The scoring at West Leigh Park was opened courtesy of an own goal by Swans defender Gary Monk in the 4th minute, with former R`s striker Richard Pacquette in close attendance. Jamie Collins and Rocky Baptiste made it 3-0 to the non-league who were in heaven before the half time whistle.

Swansea brought it back though with a deflected effort from Guillem Bauza, the powerful strike flew past Kevin Scriven in the Havant goal. Jason Scotland was then brought down in the area for a penalty; but Leon Britton failed to convert, Scriven becoming and FA Cup hero by saving the spot kick.

Swansea did get another after the break, Jason Scotland placed home from close range to set up a nervy second half for the Hawks. But Tom Jordan put the game beyond doubt to send the Blue Square South side into Round 4 at Anfield, and their fans into delirium.

In other FA Cup news, 3 ties fell foul to the weather:
Barnet V Swindon Town
Bristol Rovers V Fulham
Sheffield Wednesday V Derby County

The games in the FA Cup 3rd round replays unfolded as follows:

Bury 2-1 Norwich City
Goals from Ben Futcher and Andy Bishop gave managerless Bury a 2-0 lead at Gigg Lane, when things could have been very different in a game, which the canaries dominated. A consolation through Dion Dublin 5 minutes from time was all the Championship side could muster as Bury cause a fantastic FA Cup upset to make it to Round 4.

Liverpool 5-0 Luton Town
Certainly no upset to be had here as Steven Gerrard fired a hat-rick past a patched up Luton rearguard, which had done so well in the first 45 minutes, lead by their experienced makeshift defender Don Hutchison. In first half injury time Ryan Babel started the rout with an excellently placed shot from the edge of the area on the counter attack. After the break a Gerrard masterclass ensued culminating with a breathtaking strike from the edge of the area leaving outward bound keeper Dean Brill motionless. Sami Hyypia added to the rout, but Luton could leave the field with their heads held high.

Millwall 2-1 Walsall
A goal a-piece from Ben May in the 15th minute and Gary Alexander in the 49th was enough to see the Lions through to a fourth round tie away at giant-killers Coventry. Walsall`s consolation came courtesy of a deflected strike from Alex Nicholls on the hour mark.

Reading 0-1 Tottenham Hotspur
A solitary goal from Robbie Keane was enough to decide this all Premier League affair, the Irishman put the ball home from close range to see Spurs through to a tie away at Manchester United. It was hardly a repeat of the goalfest that ensued at White Hart Lane in the league at the back end of December, but it was enough to see Tottenham through.

West Bromwich Albion 2-2 Charlton Athletic (West Brom win 4-3 on penalties)
It all seemed to be going the Albion`s way when on loan Striker Roman Bednar gave the Baggies the lead, which was then doubled after half time by James Morrison. But goals from Darren Ambrose and right at the death from young striker Chris Dickson hot off his loan deal from Gillingham, sent the game into extra time. With no further goals the game went to penalties. Zheng Zhi, a goalscorer twice in the demolition of Blackpool at the weekend, missed his spot kick; Bednar struck the ball home to set up a tie away at Peterborough.

Hereford United 1-0 Tranmere Rovers
A somewhat unsung cup upset at Edgar Street as League 2 Hereford saw off their League 1 counterparts with a thundering strike from Simon Johnson into the bottom left corner. A goal that didn`t reflect the course of play, but nevertheless sets up a tie at Home to nearby Cardiff.

Manchester City 1-0 West Ham United
A somewhat drab affair at Eastlands yielded only one goal. A great piece of wingwork from Martin Petrov down the left set up substitute striker Rolando Bianchi, his towering header rebounded off the post, but Elano was in close attendance to bravely nod the ball home, with his head close to Richard Dunne`s foot. City will travel to Sheffield United in the fourth round.

Newcastle United 4-1 Stoke City
The geordie fans were buoyed at the news that their messiah had at last come home. Kevin Keegan had been announced earlier in the afternoon as the Toon`s new manager. Suddenly a crowd expected to be sub 40 thousand, surged to a full house with the game having to be delayed by 15 minutes to ticket demand.

The rout was sealed with goals from Michael Owen, Cacapa, James Milner and Damien Duff. A cracking consolation strike from Liam Lawrence was all that City could muster. A disappointing result for City as Emre was sent off on 29 minutes for serious foul play; but stoke never got a chance to play as they were swept away by their illustrious counterparts. Newcastle will travel to the Emirates stadium to take on Arsenal in the fourth round.

The FA Cup Fourth Round Draw is as follows:
Arsenal V Newcastle United
Coventry City V Millwall
Oldham Athletic V Huddersfield Town
Swindon/Barnet V Fulham/Bristol Rovers
Wigan Athletic V Chelsea
Liverpool V Havant & Waterlooville
Southend United V Barnsley
Southampton V Bury
Manchester United V Tottenham Hotspur
Portsmouth V Plymouth Argyle
Derby County/Sheffield Wednesday V Preston North End
Watford V Wolverhampton Wanderers
Peterborough United V West Bromwich Albion
Sheffield United V Manchester City
Mansfield Town V Middlesbrough
Hereford United V Cardiff City

I think a single figure defeat would suit the HAWKs they will just enjoy their day and no matter what the score will come back as proud as punch .. after Pompey they are the biggest team in Hampshire ... Come on the HAWKs .. who cares if Liverpool have won five European Cups........ Wouldn't it be funny if the HAWKs did win though.. Do you think Rafa would get sacked then ?
