McNair Double Downs QPR
21.09.16 - 19.45
PADDY McNair was the unlikely goalscoring hero as Premier League Sunderland sent a much-changed QPR out of the EFL Cup.
Eight changes in sum for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who did name two forwards, albeit one playing left wing, and started youngsters Niko Hamalainen and Osman Kakay in full-back berths.
Despite a rocky opening in which Duncan Watmore should have opened for the visitors it was Rangers that took the lead in the second period.
Now EFL Cup specialist, Sandro reacted well from a Joel Lynch knock-down to sweep home from the edge of the area - his third goal in two games for Rangers this season.
It was not to be however as McNair firstly played a neat one-two with the aforementioned Watmore before prodding home.
Featuring in a midfield position, McNair netted his second like a true goal-poacher - reacting quickest to score after the impressive Didier Ndong saw his drive tipped away by Matt Ingram.
In isolation, not the worst performance from Rangers who had their moments in the fixture, but in the context of recent form it was another dent to the confidence of the players and another defeat for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to ponder.
