Hooper Downs The Hoops
23.10.16 - 15.00
GARY Hooper netted the only goal on a frustrating afternoon for Queens Park Rangers and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
Forced into two changes through injury, Rangers appeared good value for a point in what was in truth an underwhelming encounter at a chilly Hillsborough.
An end to end spectacle saw Tjaronn Chery test Cameron Dawson on more than one occasion, while Sheffield Wednesday looked to talisman Fernando Forestieri for the majority of their attacking endeavours.
After appearing to hold their counterparts at bay for large parts, Rangers conceded an unfortunate goal on the stroke of half time - David Jones' shot fortuitously deflecting into the path of Gary Hooper to net for the under-par hosts.
The second half was about the visiting side laying siege to the home goal without really creating openings of note. When the lacklustre Ben Gladwin was withdrawn, Rangers upped their tempo and nearly had their rewards at the dying embers with Chery profiting from the tireless Washington to round the keeper, but seeing his effort blocked away by the Wednesday rearguard.
From Hasselbaink's perspective it was two points dropped, as Rangers taste defeat for the first time in six games. They now look forward to a home clash with 'rivals' Brentford on Friday night.
If Luongo can add finishing to his game, Rangers will have a real talent on their hands.
