Perch Thrown To The Wolves

1 - 2
Wolverhampton Wanderers

Loftus Road

01.12.16 - 19.45

Attendance: 12222

JAMES Perch saw red in the first half as Queens Park Rangers handed Wolverhampton Wanderers their first win under Paul Lambert.

The wing-back had received a let-off last week against Ipswich Town but could have no complaints as he set into motion the chain of events that ultimately saw QPR to their downfall.

After being booked for dissent by card merchant referee Tim Robinson he flew into a stupid challenge, missing the ball entirely and giving the official little alternative but to reduce Rangers to ten.

Without a win in their previous nine games, it gave the visitors every confidence and Dave Edwards slammed home the opener after the break giving an otherwise inspired Alex Smithies little chance.

One became two as Benfica loaned Helder Costa walked around the Rangers back four with effortless ease before rolling beyond a helpless 'keeper.

The unfit Sandro didn't last too long into the second half, but his replacement Karl Henry sparked a booing competition between the two sets of supporters - not a popular man at either club at present.

Nevertheless when former QPR loanee Carl Ikeme had to be withdrawn it gave Rangers a chance to regroup. Seven minutes of added on time had just been announced when Joel Lynch smashed beyond substitute Andy Lonergan to set up an ill-deserved grand-stand finale.

Wolves incredibly wasted three gilt-edged chances before Lynch spurned his chance of a brace at the death.

An uphill struggle once Perch had selfishly seen red, but the lack of organisation and semblance of a formation and system was a concerning aspect of a disappointing home humbling.

ALEX SMITHIES: It could have been a lot worse without the Rangers keeper, who bounced back ably from last week's out of character error. String of wonderful saves in both halves that spared a bit of an embarrassment.
