Washington Seals QPR Win
21.02.17 - 19.45
GOALS from strike duo Matt Smith and Conor Washington sealed a much-needed home win over Wigan Athletic.
Rangers had found Loftus Road a tricky place to play this season, with only four home wins to their name but they were able to clinch victory in a keenly-fought game to open up a ten point gap on their visitors.
The game started in the best possible fashion for the home side when Washington and Smith combined for the latter to place home from close range - despite the best efforts of veteran 'keeper Matt Gilks.
The Latics did find a way back into the game when in-form forward Omar Bogle bamboozled Joel Lynch and drew the foul in the area - the forward stepped up and succeeded where many others have failed - beating the stopper from the penalty spot.
Grant Hall was forced off with a facial injury and the game nearly swung in Wigan's favour but for Smithies acrobatically denying Jamie Hanson for the visitors.
Rangers winner was as simple as their opener - useful work from substitute Kazenga LuaLua saw him feed Washington on the edge of the area and the forward appeared to catch Gilks off guard by rifling in from the edge of the area.
It was a lead that Rangers would not relinquish as Washington's fourth goal in his last six games ensured Queens Park Rangers supporters could sleep a little easier - ten points clear of the drop zone.
