Brentford Too Jota To Handle
22.04.17 - 15.00
QUEENS Park Rangers came up woefully short at Griffin Park with Brentford taking a deserved three points.
Spanish midfielder Jota put QPR to the sword - scoring two and having a hand in the opener to condemn Ian Holloway to a sixth defeat in succession.
Yoann Barbet opened the scoring for the Bees when he rifled home a Jota corner. Complaints of a foul from Rangers players fell on deaf ears.
Rangers' system appeared confused and misunderstood by the players, Sean Goss in particular struggled once again and was taken off at half time.
Massimo Luongo did crash a speculative effort off the bar from distance before the interval but Brentford took the game away from Rangers just after the hour mark.
First a customary lunge by Joel Lynch handed Jota a goal from the spot - sending Alex Smithies the wrong way. He did atone for his error by glancing home to halve the arrears on 62 minutes however.
But again the pendulum swung back in the hosts' favour as quickly as you like with Jake Bidwell embarassed on his return to Griffin Park by a fine touch turn and finish from the resplendent Jota.
Tempers were frayed after the final whistle with manager Holloway exchanging in verbals with a disappointed away crowd but no doubting that Brentford were the better team on all fronts on this occasion.
Rangers appears to be solely reliant on Blackburn Rovers not to pick up the two wins they need in order to maintain their Championship status.
