He made a £1.85 million move to Blackburn in 2003 nad had a mixed debut for the Rovers. Coming on as a 76th minute sub he received his marching orders only 12 minutes later.

Recent years have not been kind to the midfielder and a back injury followed by cruciate ligament injury forced him to miss most of the 2006/7 season and he missed the whole of the 2008/9 season due to a knee injury.

Despite representing England at junior levels reid opted to play full international football for the Republic of Ireland and was part of the 2002 World Cup squad. He has captained his adopted nation on 1 occasion against Holland in a friendly.

He penned a one-month emergency loan deal with QPR on November 19, 2009 - but his loan spell was curtailed by injury and he returned to Blackburn.
