Hoilett had been a shining light for Blackburn Rovers for many years, just unfortunately for him, he was not allowed to flourish owing to a lack of work permit.

He was loaned out to German sides in order to help his cause, SC Paderborn 07 and St Pauli were two clubs that took the Canadian on, he scored seven goals in sum for both clubs.

He has not committed to play international football for either Canada or another eligible route in Jamaica as he stated he wanted to focus on his development.

Hoilett was granted a conditional work permit in 2009 and did not look back. Some scintillating displays in a Blackburn Rovers shirt - scoring 12 times in 81 appearances for the club.

A good season in 2011-12 was not enough to save Rovers from the drop and he sought a move away to Queens Park Rangers, who were granted a work permit for the Canadian on 27/07/12.

His first season was hardly memorable. Injury interrupted his progress, and he truly did not show his best performances as Rangers were relegated at the end of the 2012-13 season.

Disappointingly for Hoilett he did not recapture his form at Blackburn but one moment of magic came in the Playoff Final as he set up Bobby Zamora for the last gasp winner to earn QPR promotion.

Another disappointing season for Hoilett and Rangers saw relegation once more on the cards as he continued his search for a new club.

He was handed a life-line by new manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink - scoring a wonderful solo effort against Brentford, but couldn't agree terms on a new contract and was subsequently released in 2016.
