He did spend over 100 games at Bournemouth where he still resides today, before having brief stints with Brentford and Seattle Sounders.

His managerial career started in America before assisting Bobby Moore at Oxford City. He got his big break at AFC Bournemouth, winning the Football League trophy in 1984 and Division Three in 1987.

He made West Ham United into an attractive football team, winning the Intertoto Cup in 1999 with the Hammers before getting Portsmouth promoted from Division One as Champions in 2003.

His run with Pompey culminated in him winning the FA Cup in 2008 sandwiching his time at Fratton Park with a spell at bitter rivals Southampton - relegating the Saints to the second tier.

He took charge of Tottenham Hotspur in the relegation zone and led them to Champions League football further enhancing his reputation, and following his departure from White Hart Lane took the QPR hot-seat vacated by Mark Hughes in 2012.
