'If It's Football, It's Vital'

VQPR Blog - Kelvin Mackenzie

QPR4Me explores recent comments by Sun reporter Kelvin Mackenzie

Following my comments on Thursday last regarding Kelvin MacKenzie's comment about footballers when he complimented Monty Panesar for donating £10K to his former county Northants, I am pleased to tell those of you who don't read The Sun that he was, apparently, 'flooded with emails' and wished to apologise to 'one Lee Cook'.

The article in question featured the following quote on the left hand side of the page:

'I tip my turban to cricketing spin-wizard Monty Panesar for handing over £10,000 to hard up Northants as he departed for Sussex. Wouldn't happen in football, would it?'

He raised him highly for his donation of his signing on fee when he left us for Fulham, at a time when we were up the proverbial creek without a paddle, his words 'QPR fell on hard times so they sold him to Fulham, but with incredible generosity Mr Cook gave the £250K signing on fee back to his old club'

He then added 'No matter how wealthy you are, £250K is an astonishing amount of money to simply give away and today I salute Mr Cook.'

He said some other stuff, including a swipe at Bernie E's divorce, but I have to take my hat off to Mr MacKenzie for putting the record straight so quickly and wish to thank anyone who saw my original posting and let Mr MacKenzie know a thing or two about footballers.

I sent him an email to thank him for his correction on today's Sun. I have tried but I cannot find the article on The Sun's online bit, but thought I would let you know, should you have missed it.

Many thanks to QPR4Me
