'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fans Eye View - GriffQPR

Vital QPR continues to ask the fans the questions. Next in line is GriffQPR

1. We have just been promoted to the premier league. Are you excited about the coming season?

Yes, I am. The fact we are back in the EPL is reason enough to get excited in itself. Add NW to the mix and I refuse to get too despondent about the other stuff.

2. Prices have gone up by a lot and hit a lot of people hard. Do you still fell it is worth it?

I'm overseas, so the prices do not affect me directly. However I am disappointed for the home fans. They showed up week after week during the difficult times. Now we are up there, I would have hoped the Board would show some appreciation by restricting the price increases. Evidently the Board does not do gratitude.

3. We have adopted a transfer policy with a very strict wage structure and will not be spending a lot on transfers. What do you think about QPR employing this transfer policy?

I cannot disagree with the maxim of 'living within one's means', but I think they are going too far. Investment in order to reap a later benefit is a well established business strategy. There is a line between being careful and being parsimonious and the Board have stayed on the wrong side. It would not take much (in football terms) to strengthen the club in the anticipation of future gains.

4. Being promoted as Champions, we have a strong squad, do you feel it needs to be strengthened?

Yes. The squad was great in the nPC but is a bit lightweight in the EPL. A couple of defenders were a must. Strikers also, but we might have settled that.

5. We have signed DJ Campbell, Gabbidon, Bothroyd and Dyer. How do you feel about these signings?
Bothroyd is a definite yes. Campbell seems to be okay and Dyer will be fine if he stays healthy. I'm one of those who, so far, is not impressed with Gabbidon, but I have also stated that eating crow because I was wrong about him will go down very well with me.

6. We have been linked to a lot of players over the summer. Is there anyone in particular you would like to see in the Blue and White hoops?

I am unable to add much 'cos I see so little football action compared to the home fans. I did hope Routledge would stay, but I note the views that he can disappear for long spells. Sounds a lot like someone with the initials AT.

7. There is a lot of uncertainty about Adel Tarabt staying at W12. Do you think he will stay?

Fixed and I'm happy about it.

8. There has been a lot of speculation regarding the boardroom. What are your opinions of the current board?

It is no secret that I am not a great supporter of BE/FB as our majority owners, but we are apparently stuck with them. I admit to hoping the Mittal interests would buy them out, but apparently not. So I'll wait and see if BE/FB do the right thing by leaving NW alone

9. Neil Warnock got us our first trophy in years. Do you think he will last all season?

If NW goes I fear for our club. I strongly believe he alone is responsible for the club spirit that serves us so well. If he is unceremoniously turfed out, then I wonder how morale in the squad will fall. Add that to a team that is struggling and it could be disastrous.

10. How do you think we will fare for our first season back?

I hope for a mid table finish, but will happily settle for 17th or above. I do not expect us to be playing in Europe next season

Many Spurs fans lament 'Disco' Adel Taarabt as the great lost talent of White Hart Lane. On the evidence available to us so far, that is wistful nonsense. When Taarabt was good, he was almost unplayable in the Championship last season, but when he was bad, he was horrid. If he couldn't break down a defence, or misplaced a pass, or simply wasn't quite in the mood, then the bottom lip began trembling, the shoulders shrugged and interest in the task at hand was lost. In one game against Hull, Taarabt decided after around 20 minutes that this wasn't going to be his day and asked to be taken off. If he is to reproduce anything like the form that QPR need from him this season, he will have to mature pretty quickly. One suspects that with Neil Warnock managing a talent the word 'mercurial' was invented for, life at Loftus Road will rarely be dull.
